JOSEPH A. DUNHAM All Lebanon was shocked Monday night when it was announced that Joseph A. Dunham, prominent citizen and Civil War veteran had suddenly passed to his reward. He had been on the streets a few hours before chatting and talking with friends in his usual pleasant manner. Mrs. Dunham had been aiding the W.R.C. in serving the business men’s banquet and returning home found her husband sitting before the fire in his arm chair apparently asleep. She attempted to arouse him and then discovered that he was dead. Death was due to heart trouble. Mr. Dunham was 74 years of age and he and his companion had lived in Lebanon for the past eight years returning from Norwood. They had been married 47 years and to them three children were born: George H., of Harrisburg, Pa.; Lulu, now Mrs. Samuel Bickerstaff, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Anna, now Mrs. Theodore Newhouse, of Norwood. When Lincoln called for volunteers for the Rebellion Mr. Dunham was among the first to enlist going to the front with the “Burgess Sharp Shooters” and remaining in active service during the entire conflict. There was no more loyal supporter of the flag than Mr. Dunham who was an energetic and enthusiastic member of the Granville Thurston Post, G. A. R. Mr. Dunham was a man who was ever the same to all acquaintances. His sunny and amiable disposition won a firm place in the hearts of his many friends who join the stricken family in sympathies. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the West Baptist church.
